Buchholz High Band to
Preview International Concert
The local community will have an opportunity to enjoy world class music when the Buchholz High School Wind Symphony presents a preview of the concert it has been invited to perform at the prestigious Midwest International Band and Orchestra Clinic in Chicago next week.
The free concert will be held at the Buchholz auditorium on Wednesday, December 9th at 7 p.m., and will include selections performed by other school ensembles, including the Symphonic Band and the Jazz Band. The Dallas Brass, which has performed with orchestras throughout the world, will also join the BHS musicians for the concert. In addition to the selections from the Midwest Clinic concert, the bands will perform some holiday favorites.
Alex Kaminsky, the Director of Bands at Buchholz, says he’s proud to again be taking a group to the Midwest Clinic. In 2005 he took a group from his former school, Lincoln High School in Tallahassee. Only five other Florida bands have received invitations in the last decade, and none have made it in the last three years.
“An invitation to perform at the Midwest Clinic is the highest international honor that can be bestowed on any high school band,” said Kaminsky. “Most bands never reach the incredibly high standard of performance excellence required to be accepted.”
All fifty states and thirty other nations will be represented at the Clinic. More than 15,000 people are expected to attend, including music publishers, composers, recording companies and other representatives of the music industry.
“We’re so proud of what these students, the director and his staff have accomplished,” said school board chairman Ginger Childs, who will make comments during the concert. “I’m looking forward to a great evening of outstanding music from these talented band members.”
