5.      Budget Amendments   (Ward)

 

   Budget Amendment No. 16 – General Fund, Budget Amendment No. 17  – Special Revenues, and    Budget Amendment No. 18 – Capital Projects include changes for the period of April 1   through April 30, 2008.

 

6.            Transportation Bus Use Agreement  (Harrison)

 

               A bus use agreement has been prepared with the Sister City Program of Gainesville, Inc., to provide transportation for 26 Iraqi students to various field trips.  Buses will be needed beginning July 21, 2008. 

 

7.      Title III Part A, English Language Acquisition Grant  (Caudle)

A proposal has been prepared for submission to the Florida Department of Education for a Title III, English Acquisition grant.  This grant funds a variety of activities for students who are classified as having limited English proficiency.  Proposed program activities include teacher training in strategies designed to improve academic performance of students with limited English ability.  Funds are utilized, additionally, to provide tutoring, mentoring, and other academic enhancement services for immigrant students.  Grant funds also enable the district to purchase appropriate supplemental consumable supplies, books, dictionaries, software, and other materials for use in the enhancing curricular offering for immigrant students.  The grant period for this program is July 1, 2008 through June 30, 2009.

 

8.            Continuation Grant for Education for Homeless Children and Youth (Title X)  (Caudle)

A proposal has been prepared for submission to the Florida Department of Education to request funds to continue the district’s Education for Homeless Children and Youth (Title X) program.  Funds will be used to provide services for homeless children in all schools at all grade levels throughout the district.  A half-time liaison will be employed to coordinate service delivery.  Materials and supplies will be purchased for use by Alachua County homeless children to enable them to participate in a full range of elementary, middle, and high school educational opportunities.  A total of $60,500 is requested.

 

9.      2008-09 School Advisory Membership Lists  (Anusavice)

 

         Florida Statute 1001.452 and Board Policy require that a list of School Advisory Council members be submitted annually by each school to the School Board.

 

10.       Contract with PACE Center for Girls  (Hall)

 

            This contract outlines areas of agreement between the School Board of Alachua County and PACE Center for Girls, Inc., as they relate to providing educational alternative programs for eligible students at PACE Center for Girls, Inc.  The execution of this agreement provides compliance with provision outlined in Florida Statutes.

 

11.       Contract with Gainesville Wilderness Institute  (Hall)

 

            This contract outlines areas of agreement between the School Board of Alachua County and Gainesville Wilderness Institute as they relate to providing educational programs for students at Gainesville Wilderness Institute.  The execution of this agreement provides compliance with provision outlined in Florida Statutes.

 

12.       Inter-Agency Agreement Truancy Center, Corner Drug Store, Sheriff’s Office, GPD  (Hall)

 

            This document outlines areas of agreement between the School Board of Alachua County, Corner Drug Store, Inc., Alachua County Sheriff’s Office and Gainesville Police Department as they relate to providing a Truancy Center to be located at Interface.  The Truancy Center will provide prevention and intervention programs for truant students in Alachua County.
