Dr. Dan Boyd’s record of working for and with public education in Florida spans more than 40 years.
Dr. Boyd became Superintendent of Alachua County schools in July of 2004 following a five-year tenure as Associate Commissioner for the Florida High School Athletic Association. He has also worked as a teacher, assistant principal and principal, most notably as principal of Gainesville High School from 1971 to 1995. Under his leadership, the school developed the district’s first vocational academy magnet program, the first pre-collegiate program for minority students and a host of other academic, extracurricular and parent involvement programs. Dr. Boyd left GHS to serve as Alachua County's Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction until 1999.
Dr. Boyd also has an extensive record of service to the community. Since 1975 he has been an active member of the Rotary Club of Gainesville and served in many leadership roles, including president. He has been involved with the United Way of Alachua County, the Gainesville YMCA and the American Cancer Society, the Alachua County Heart Association, and currently serves on the community Workforce Development Board.
Dr. Boyd earned his doctorate from Nova University, and both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Florida.
