DECA

Our student organization is Distributive Education Clubs of America (DECA).  This is an association of Marketing Students to provide leadership training and for reinforcing specific career skills.  This is an integral part of the career and technical instructional program, and the activities of these organizations are defined as part of the curriculum.

We use this vehicle to work in the community with several activities that help citizens on special occasions.  We earn money in the store to buy items to go in Shoeboxes around the World for Christmas, we donate turkeys or money to St. Francis House for Thanksgiving, and we adopt a family for Christmas.  We have a bar-b-que to earn money to donate to the Muscular Dystrophy Association to help fight against Muscular Dystrophy and all the diseases associated with it.

We attend several DECA functions through the year.  Included are Southern Leadership Conference and The New York Experience.  The students learn all kinds of leadership activities and the importance of being leaders at the leadership conference.  The New York Experience gives the students a first hand knowledge of fashion and finance in the capital of fashion and finance--New York City.  They spend 5 days exploring New York, the garment district, and the financial district.
