8th Grade Preparatory Program

Mission

The 8th Grade Prep Academy is the first place that future students of Professional Academies Magnet at Loften high school will begin their high school education. It provides a stepping-stone for students to prepare them for the fast paced, advanced courses that are required in order to be enrolled in one of the six academies that are hosted here at the school.

Curriculum

Incoming students will have the opportunity to converse with current students who are enrolled in their academy of choice. This gives the 8th graders an advantage because it will help them see what is to come in the near future and what is required of them.

The curriculum for the 8th grade prep provides a way for students to be refreshed in memory of the four basic academic courses: Math, Science, Social Studies, and English. The classes remain small because of a unique “AB” system that maintains a low student presence in each class. One-day students will go to a certain class, but on B day, they will go to another. This system also helps build a bond between the groups of students that is the fundamental to creating a better education.
