Letter from the Principal, Veita Carter

Dear Parents, Guardians, Staff & Students:
Welcome back Hornets! As we embark on a new beginning at Hawthorne Middle High School, it is my hope that you embrace our school pride, and look forward to a new school year. Our theme this year is: Expect Success!
I am proud to welcome new administration, instructional and education support staff to our Hawthorne Hornet family. In keeping with our Vision/Mission statement, it is my goal to work with my staff and school community to foster academic excellence, school connectedness and professional development.
Vision/Mission Statement
Hawthorne Middle High School faculty and staff strive to provide quality instruction and opportunities for the academic, personal, social, and vocational development of our students in a clean, safe, and healthy environment.
The academic success of every student is essential. It is the goal of the administration, faculty, and staff to provide a safe and orderly learning environment. We can achieve our goal together.
The School Board of Alachua County provides a Student Code of Conduct for the district. The Hawthorne Middle/High School Discipline Handbook is aligned with the district Student Code of Conduct. It is important we adhere to our discipline policies with fairness and consistency.
We will be implementing a school-wide discipline plan (Florida's Positive Behavior Support Program) for ALL students. Some of the components include implementation of: EXPECTATIONS and rules/procedures, interventions for behavior, responses to problem behavior, and a school-wide reward system.
Together we can make a difference. I am looking forward to a great school year. It's great to be a Hawthorne Hornet!
