Welcome
to the community!
We’re pleased
that you’ve chosen to live in Alachua County, one of the
most livable communities in the U.S. I’m proud to say that one of
the things that makes our community such a great place to
live, work and raise a family is our high quality
educational system.
Outstanding
academic achievement and innovative programs are the
hallmarks of Alachua County Public Schools. Our district is
one of the highest rated in Florida, having earned an ‘A’
grade from the state for three straight years based on the
performance of our schools and students. We have the highest
SAT scores in the state, scores that are also well above the
national averages. We have the highest ratio of passed
Advanced Placement tests in the state. For many years we’ve
earned the ‘What Parents Want’ Award from SchoolMatch, the
nation’s largest school selection consulting firm. Only 16%
of school districts nationwide earn this distinction, which
is based on criteria established by parents across the
country. These are just a few examples of the
characteristics that set our district apart.
Many factors
account for our success. We have the most highly-educated
teachers in the state, we have a number of magnet programs
catering to the special needs of academically
talented/gifted students, and we have a wide variety of
career academies that prepare students for success in
college and the workplace. We are also leaders in the use of
classroom technology and we offer a full range of exciting
extra curricular activities.
Community
support is also crucial to our success. We have outstanding
partnerships with hundreds of local businesses and
organizations, including the University of Florida and Santa
Fe College. Those partnerships provide unique
opportunities for our students to reach their full
potential.
In order to
make your child’s transition into our district as smooth as
possible, we’ve provided links to information which is most
useful for incoming families, including enrollment and
zoning information, calendars, etc. If you do not find the
information you need here, please feel free to contact our
Public Information Office at (352) 955-7253, ext. 228 or at
pio@gm.sbac.edu.
And again,
welcome to Alachua County! We’re glad you’re here. |
